West Chapter Elects Johnson and Kamby to Serve on the Board of Directors

Matz and Pratt Fill Vacancies.

The Colorado PGA West Chapter held their virtual Spring Meeting on Thursday, April 15, and held elections for the Board of Directors. Trey Johnson, PGA Assistant Professional at Vail Golf Club and Joe Kamby, PGA Assistant Professional at Country Club of the Rockies were elected to serve a three-year term in which they will be sworn in during the West Chapter Fall Meeting on September 27.

Also explained at the meeting was the filling of two vacant seats on the Board of Directors by Mark Matz, PGA Director of Golf at Beaver Greek Golf Club and James Pratt, PGA Head Professional at Aspen Golf Club. The two are filling vacancies left by current Secretary Steve VanDyke, PGA and John Lynch, PGA who moved to Hawaii.

“The West Chapter Board of Directors has had some transition over the last year or so with some members leaving the Chapter and the COVID pandemic,” said President of the West Chapter, Jeff Boyer, PGA General Manager at Eagle Ranch Golf Club. “I am excited to have some outstanding PGA Golf Professionals who have stepped up to fill the positions that were open. Joe Kamby has served on the Board in the past and his many years of experience in the West Chapter are a great asset. Trey Johnson, Jim Pratt and Mark Matz will bring great energy as younger and newer members of the West Chapter. I am looking forward to working with them.”

Kamby explained his decision to run for the position. “I ran for the West Chapter Board because I believe we all need to serve when we are able to do so. The time commitment is minimal in the grand scheme of things. I also think that we, as Member Professionals, should serve as shining examples to up and coming associates. One way is to get involved in governance, on the Chapter, Section, or National level.

I also have an agenda, to ensure that more Members are acting in mentor roles to the new professionals. I plan on bringing this agenda to the forefront during the Fall Meeting, after the business levels at our courses subsides a bit. The support of my fellow West Chapter Professionals in the election is very much appreciated. I take the position seriously and will do whatever is in my power to further the standing of Chapter Professionals.”

Filling in a vacancy, Matz commented, “I have been on the side lines for many years and finally decided to enter the game. I have always wanted to serve on a board in the PGA; however, I kept saying next year will be the year. I grew tired of passing the buck and wanted to give back to the Chapter and provide my support in whatever capacity they needed my help. I am thrilled to be serving the West Chapter and look forward to many years of service.”
