A Career Worth Celebrating: Doug Rohrbaugh, PGA, Inducted into the Colorado Golf Hall of Fame

More than 30 years of championship golf, player development, & service to the game have earned Doug Rohrbaugh, PGA, a place among Colorado golf's best

Some careers are defined by championships. Others are measured by the players they inspire, the communities they strengthen, or the organizations they help build. For Doug Rohrbaugh, his legacy in Colorado golf is defined by all of these things.

After more than three decades of elevating the game throughout the state, particularly on the Western Slope, Rohrbaugh has earned his place among Colorado golf's most distinguished contributors as a new inductee into the Colorado Golf Hall of Fame.

A highly accomplished player, dedicated instructor, community leader, and longtime Colorado PGA member, Rohrbaugh's career reflects the very best of what it means to be a PGA Professional.

Rohrbaugh's competitive résumé is among the most impressive in Colorado golf history. Throughout his career, he has accumulated more than 100 Colorado PGA tournament victories, a remarkable achievement that reflects both his longevity and his consistency as a competitor.

Among his many accomplishments are three consecutive Colorado PGA Section Championships in 2013, 2014, and 2015. That distinction places him in an elite group, as only 10 Colorado PGA members have won three or more Section Championships, seven of whom are already members of the Colorado Golf Hall of Fame.

His other Colorado playing accomplishments include:

  • 2013 Colorado Senior Open Champion, winning by six strokes at Green Valley Ranch.
  • Nine-time Colorado PGA Player of the Year, including one overall honor in 2018 and eight Senior Player of the Year awards.
  • 13-time West Chapter Champion & 14-time West Chapter Player of the Year.

His success extended well beyond Colorado. After turning 50, Rohrbaugh demonstrated that a dedicated club professional could compete with the best senior players in the country. He earned status on PGA TOUR Champions, making 12 starts and recording a top-15 finish.

He also qualified for 10 Senior Major Championships, including five Senior PGA Championships, four U.S. Senior Opens, and the Regions Tradition.

His accomplishments on and off the course have not gone unnoticed. In 2014, Rohrbaugh was recognized as the Colorado Golf Hall of Fame's Golf Person of the Year.

While Rohrbaugh's playing career is extraordinary, his influence on Colorado golf reaches far beyond the scorecard.

A passionate instructor, he has averaged between 400 and 500 lessons annually and currently works with more than 200 students. His approach to teaching has helped golfers of all ages and abilities discover their potential, with a particular commitment to growing the game among young players.

That commitment dates back to his early years in the Roaring Fork Valley. Serving as Executive Director of the Aspen Junior Golf Foundation from 1992 to 1999, Rohrbaugh helped create annual clinics that introduced more than 500 children to golf each year. The clinics were offered free of charge, with complimentary transportation provided throughout the valley to ensure more children had the opportunity to participate.

His impact continued through coaching at Aspen, Basalt, and Carbondale High Schools. Under his leadership, Aspen High School captured its first-ever regional championship and earned its first trip to the state tournament.

At Basalt High School, he coached his son, Tristan, to a Colorado State High School Championship. Tristan became the first golfer from the Western Slope to win the state title, later continuing his playing career at Boise State before turning professional and competing on the ACN Japan Tour.

Rohrbaugh also helped develop other standout players, including Lenna Parsson, the first female golfer from the Roaring Fork Valley to earn an NCAA Division I golf scholarship, and Eri Crum, who went on to Stanford University and played alongside Tiger Woods as part of the university's historic freshman class.

For Rohrbaugh, success has never been measured solely by trophies or tournament finishes. It is also measured by the opportunities created and the lives changed through the game.

When Rohrbaugh arrived in Colorado, junior golf opportunities on the Western Slope were limited. Rather than simply accepting the landscape, he helped change it.

Through fundraising, tournament leadership, and community partnerships, he played an instrumental role in bringing meaningful golf opportunities to young players throughout the region.

One of his most significant contributions came through his involvement with the Danny Sullivan Aspen Charity Classic, "Golf for Kids." Working alongside Glenn Frey of the Eagles, Rohrbaugh helped direct the event and grow its impact dramatically. Under his leadership, net proceeds increased from $120,000 in 1991 to $778,000 by 1999.

He also helped attract 25 to 30 PGA TOUR professionals annually to the event, bringing some of the game's biggest names to Aspen. Players such as Tiger Woods, Fred Couples, Payne Stewart, Davis Love III, and Tom Lehman helped elevate the event's profile while supporting its mission of growing junior golf.

In addition to his work with the charity event, Rohrbaugh served as Tournament Chairman for the AJGA Royal Grip Aspen Junior Classic, further demonstrating his commitment to creating competitive opportunities for the next generation.

His dedication to the Colorado PGA has been equally consistent. Over more than 30 years, he has served on the West Chapter Board and contributed eight years of service to the Section Tournament Committee.

Rohrbaugh's contributions have always extended beyond his own professional success. His willingness to give back, develop others, and strengthen the game throughout Colorado is what makes his career so special.

In 2026, his peers recognized that commitment by awarding him the Colorado PGA Noble Chalfant Award for Distinguished Service. The honor places him alongside a distinguished group of Colorado Golf Hall of Fame members, including Ralph Arnold, Tom Connell, and Jim Johnson.

As fellow Colorado Golf Hall of Fame member Paul Brown has described, Rohrbaugh is the consummate ambassador for the game: a champion competitor, a master teacher, a community builder, and a person of uncompromising integrity.

From more than 100 tournament victories to decades spent developing young golfers, building junior golf opportunities, and serving his fellow PGA Professionals, Doug Rohrbaugh's impact on Colorado golf is difficult to measure.

His career represents four essential pillars of the game: playing ability, player development, administration and service, and tournament promotion. Few individuals have made such a significant contribution across all four.

Most importantly, he has left the game of golf in Colorado, and particularly on the Western Slope, significantly better than he found it.

Now, with his induction into the Colorado Golf Hall of Fame, Rohrbaugh's remarkable career and lasting contributions receive one of the highest honors in Colorado golf.

Congratulations to Doug Rohrbaugh on this well-deserved recognition and on a legacy that will continue to inspire Colorado golfers for generations to come.

Westminster, Colo. – Geoff Keffer, PGA Assistant Professional at Lakewood Country Club, entered Wednesday's final round of the 69th Colorado PGA Professional Championship with a three-shot advantage and ultimately needed nearly every bit of it. After producing the round of the championship on Tuesday, Keffer followed his brilliant 8-under-par 64 with a hard-fought 1-over-par 73 in Wednesday's final round at Walnut Creek Golf Preserve. “I just did not want to beat myself,” Keffer stated about what his game plan was heading into the final round. His three-day total of 7-under-par 209 was enough to hold off a charging Tristin Goodwin, PGA Instructor at ExperienceGolf, by a single stroke and secure his second consecutive Colorado PGA Professional Championship and fifth Section Championship of his career.
