Trowbridge, Kennedy Win in Respective Divisions in Fifth and Final Stroke Play
Aurora, Colo. - Finally, some bright sunny skies greeted Colorado PGA Professionals as they arrived at Murphy Creek Golf Course on Wednesday for the fifth and final stroke play of the 2023 season. The golf course posed quite the challenge for the players, with only five breaking par and four finishing with rounds of even par 72.
Kirk Trowbridge, PGA Instructor at MetaGolf Learning Center, was the top dog at Murphy Creek, firing a five-under-par round of 67, consisting of five birdies and no bogies, which is no easy feat on the 7,253-yard layout. Finishing two back of Trowbridge, in the second spot was Ben Lanting, PGA Assistant Professional at Bear Creek Golf Club. Lanting posted a round of three-under-par 69 consisting of four birdies and a lone bogey on the 442-yard Par 4 Fifth. One back of Lanting and finishing in a tie for third were Bill Hancock, PGA Assistant Professional at Meadow Hills Golf Course, and Doug Rohrbaugh, PGA Assistant Professional at River Valley Ranch—both shooting rounds of two-under-par 70.
In the Associate Professional-only contest, Chris Kennedy of Top Golf Centennial took home the top prize firing a one-under-par round of 71 consisting of four birdies and three bogies. Rounding out the top three was Gerard Hall of CommonGround Golf Course and Charles Stary of Optimum Golf, who both posted rounds of even par 72, which ironically both consisted of four birdies, two bogies, and a double bogey.
