Schalk, Team Parsloe Win in Respective Divisions at 6th Corona Pro-Am

Windsor, Colo. – The Colorado PGA (COPGA) held its sixth Corona Premier Pro Am® Series event Monday at RainDance National Golf Course in Windsor, Colorado. With the female amateur-specific Pro-Am having completed last week, this week was back to normal with men and women amateurs playing together. As the heat starts to ramp up for the first time this year, Monday’s event had sunny skies and light breezes to make for excellent scoring conditions. It also helped that for a course just a year old, it was in exceptional condition, thanks to Chris Williamson, PGA, Head Golf Professional, and his entire staff. With a field of 204 players, the first round was off early at 7:30 am, with the afternoon round teeing off at 2:00 pm

RainDance National, an already challenging course, was playing firm Monday with balls taking large first bounces and skidding across quick greens, but with the ideal weather, it was Matt Schalk, PGA, General Manager of Colorado National Golf Club, who took advantage. Fresh off a victory with his team at the previous week’s Pro-Lady, Schalk scored low with six birdies, with his lone bogey coming at the par-4, 11th hole, Schalk was dialed in and finished his round with a 5-under-par 67, narrowly beating out Chris Sholts, PGA, who carded a bogey-free round, including an eagle on the par-5 13th hole to finish with a 4-under-par 68. Third place among the professionals went to another familiar name Doug Rohrbaugh, PGA, of River Valley Ranch Golf Course. Rohrbaugh followed up his win last week with another strong performance, posting a score of 2-under-par 70.

The team contest was another tight race with eight teams, all finishing within four strokes of eventual Champions Tyler Parsloe, PGA, of Jake’s Academy, and his team of Blake Williams, Bryan Stevinson, and Jason Nygren. Parsloe, another name familiar with the top of a leaderboard, and his team had a great day, especially on the back nine, going 12-under-par on holes 10-18 to finish at 20-under-par 124. Three other teams finished one stroke back from tying for second, Team Schalk, Team Rohrbaugh, and Team Keffer all shot 19-under-125s.

This week’s Corona Premier® Hole of the Week was a fun one. Playing about 306 yards from the Professional tees, the drivable par-4 3rd hole had many players thinking about their club selection. With a large fairway bunker down the left and green side bunkers on the right, it was undoubtedly a high-risk, high-reward golf hole. A good tee shot helps, but the work isn’t done yet as the large green slopes left to right, leaving tricky putts for players.

As always, Corona Premier®, our Title Sponsor at our Pro-Ams, continues to provide tremendous support and be there for our players with awesome swag and free beer at every event. Being the hot day that it was, the demand for refreshing Corona Premiers was very high, leading to a refreshing day on the course. BioSteel sports drinks were also available to players to help fuel them through a long golf day.

Thank you again to Chris Williamson, PGA of RainDance National Resort, and his golf staff for all that they did to prepare the course to be perfect for players. The Colorado PGA tournament schedule will take a short hiatus over the Fourth of July Holiday and will resume with the PGA REACH Colorado Game for Life event on July 10th at Hiwan Golf Club. The next Corona Premier Pro-Am with head west on July 17th as Breckenridge Golf Club will host the seventh Pro-Am of 2023.

Longmont, Colo . - What a difference a day makes as cloudy skies and cool temperatures greeted the players on day two of the Colorado Senior PGA Professional Championship, compared to hot and sunny temperatures during the opening round. Caine Fitzgerald, PGA Head Professional at Meadow Hills Golf Course, took a 3-shot lead into the final round after a 3-under-par 67 on day one. “The 3-under on day one was fortunate, the golf course is very difficult and is tough to make putts, Fitzgerald said.” Three back of Fitzgerald to start the day was the 2012 and 2013 senior champion, Doug Rohrbaugh, PGA Instructor at River Valley Ranch Golf Course, and four back was the 2022 and 2023 champion Matt Schalk, PGA General Manager at Colorado National Golf Club.

Centennial, Colo. - It was a beautiful day to crown a champion at Valley Country Club for the 67th Colorado PGA Professional Championship. Geoff Keffer, PGA Assistant Professional at Lakewood Country Club began the day with a two-shot lead over Tristin Goodwin, PGA Assistant Professional at Cherry Hills Country Club. Goodwin started the day red hot as he birdied four of his first six holes and added an eagle on hole 5 as he holed his wedge shot from 40 yards out. After hole 6 Goodwin had flipped a two-shot deficit into a three-shot lead. “My strategy did not change, but my mindset definitely changed a little bit, I started to feel more pressure as I was leading the golf tournament now,” Goodwin said. Bogies on holes 7 and 9, the two par threes on the front nine, and a birdie from Keffer on 7, Goodwin and Keffer made the turn to the back nine dead even at 9-under-par.
