Goodwin Fires Final Round 67 To Claim 67th Colorado PGA Professional Championship Title

Centennial, Colo. - It was a beautiful day to crown a champion at Valley Country Club for the 67th Colorado PGA Professional Championship. Geoff Keffer, PGA Assistant Professional at Lakewood Country Club began the day with a two-shot lead over Tristin Goodwin, PGA Assistant Professional at Cherry Hills Country Club.

Goodwin started the day red hot as he birdied four of his first six holes and added an eagle on hole 5 as he holed his wedge shot from 40 yards out. After hole 6 Goodwin had flipped a two-shot deficit into a three-shot lead. “My strategy did not change, but my mindset definitely changed a little bit, I started to feel more pressure as I was leading the golf tournament now,” Goodwin said. Bogies on holes 7 and 9, the two par threes on the front nine, and a birdie from Keffer on 7, Goodwin and Keffer made the turn to the back nine dead even at 9-under-par.

New paragraphGoodwin and Keffer traded birdies on the par 5 10th, and pars on the par 4 11th to stay even with 7 to play. Goodwin then birdied the 12th hole and Keffer made a bogey for Goodwin to open up a two-shot lead with six to play. Goodwin bogeyed the very next hole to slim the lead to one. Four consecutive pars meant Goodwin sat at 10-under-par heading to the last. Bogies from Keffer on 14 and 17 with a birdie mixed in on 16 meant Keffer sat at 8-under-par, needing an eagle 3 on 18 to have a shot. A par by both players on the 18th clinched the title for Goodwin, his second Colorado PGA Major Championship in as many years, after capturing the Masek Match Play in 2023.

“I haven’t won many events, this was probably the biggest event I have ever won,” Goodwin stated. When asked what it means to capture the biggest event on the Colorado PGA tournament calendar in 2024, Goodwin said, “This means a lot, I’ll reiterate this is the biggest tournament I have won.” With this victory, Goodwin leads seven other Colorado PGA of America Golf Professionals who qualified for the 2025 PGA Professional Championship at PGA Golf Club in Port St. Lucie, Florida from April 27th through the 30th.

The seven other Colorado PGA of America Golf Professionals who qualified for the 2025 PGA Professional Championship are runner-up Geoff Keffer, PGA, Mike Weingartner, PGA Instructor at The Links Golf Course, Rob Grall, PGA Assistant Professional at Colorado National Golf Club, Micah Rudosky, PGA Head Professional at Conquistador Golf Course, Ben Lanting, PGA Assistant Professional at Bear Creek Golf Club, Jordan Gibbs, PGA Director of Instruction at Denver Country Club, and capturing the 8th and final qualifying spot in a 3-for-1 playoff was Kirk Trowbridge, PGA Instructor at MetaGolf Learning Center.

Longmont, Colo . - What a difference a day makes as cloudy skies and cool temperatures greeted the players on day two of the Colorado Senior PGA Professional Championship, compared to hot and sunny temperatures during the opening round. Caine Fitzgerald, PGA Head Professional at Meadow Hills Golf Course, took a 3-shot lead into the final round after a 3-under-par 67 on day one. “The 3-under on day one was fortunate, the golf course is very difficult and is tough to make putts, Fitzgerald said.” Three back of Fitzgerald to start the day was the 2012 and 2013 senior champion, Doug Rohrbaugh, PGA Instructor at River Valley Ranch Golf Course, and four back was the 2022 and 2023 champion Matt Schalk, PGA General Manager at Colorado National Golf Club.
