2012 Tournament Schedule Announced

In developing the 2012 Tournament Schedule the Tournament Committee felt that the number one goal of the committee was to increase participation in all of the Section events. They felt that by introducing or re-introducing facilities, altering some formats, and adding new events, they could dramatically increase participation. That is exactly what they have done.

The facilities that have been added for 2012 will hopefully go a long way in increasing participation. Highlighting the new host facilities will be Colorado Golf Club as they will host the 2012 Myran Craig Pro-Pro Championship on June 4th, 2012. It promises to be an outstanding event as we will work with the PGA Professional staff at Colorado Golf Club to elevate this tournament to a Can’t Miss on your 2012 Schedule.

That was not the only addition to the schedule; Inverness Golf Club and Hotel, Breckenridge Golf Club, and Fossil Trace Golf Club have all been re-introduced. Inverness and Breckenridge will once again host Pro-Am’s with Fossil Trace coming back on board as host of the always fun Pro-Pro-Pro Scramble. Colorado Springs Country Club and Cannongate at Blackstone will both be hosting an event for the first time. The Pro-Lady will visit Colorado Springs Country Club and for all of you who played in the Stroke Play event at Blackstone in 2011, bring along your amateurs this time when they host a Pro-Am.

The Committee decided to alter the format for two of the four Match Play Championships. The Four-Ball Match Play Championship and the Individual Match Play Championship will both contest their first two rounds on one day. The first and second rounds of the Four-Ball Match Play Championship will be contested at Valley Country Club on Monday, April 9th, 2012. The first and second round of the Individual Match Play Championship will be contested on Monday, May 21st, 2012 at The Ranch Country Club. The Semi-Finals and the Finals of the Individual Match Play Championship will be contested at Castle Pines Golf Club in late August at a date to be determined.

If all of those changes are not enough for you, the committee decided to remove one event and add two more. The Points Championship will not be hosted in 2012 as the Player of the Year will be awarded at the conclusion of the 2012 West Chapter Championship. Taking its place will be the new Modified Stableford Championship to be held October 8th, 2012 at Glenmoor Country Club. Boulder Country Club will be hosting a new event as well as they host the 2012 Junior-Senior Championship on the afternoon of August 20th, 2012.This event will pair one Member or Apprentice 49 years of age or under with one Member or Apprentice 50 years of age or older.

Additionally, the Colorado PGA has taken over the administration of the Colorado Golf Hall of Fame Pro-Am. The event will be a hosted this year at Valley Country Club with facilities such as Cherry Hills Country Club, Castle Pines Golf Club, and Denver Country Club hosting in the future.

Due to scheduling conflicts that have arisen in the past two weeks, sites for the Senior Section Championship and the National Car Rental Colorado PGA Assistant Professional Championship presented by Cobra/Puma Golf have yet to be named. While the dates have been tentatively scheduled, keep an eye out in the E-Weekly, your email, and on the Colorado PGA Tournament Schedule for the names of the host facilities.

In addition to introducing or re-introducing facilities, altering some formats, and adding new events, the Tournament Committee has decided to adopt the PGA of America’s Tee It Forward Campaign.  In Pro-Am events only, PGA Professionals will play a separate tee from their amateur partners.  Amateurs and Super Senior PGA Professionals will play one tee forward with Super Senior Amateurs playing one tee forward of that.  Female PGA Professionals and female amateurs will play one tee forward of the Super Senior Amateurs.  The following guidelines will he followed in 2012:
PGA Professionals – 7,000 yards to 6,600 yards
Senior PGA Professionals and Amateurs – One tee forward (6,650 to 6,250 yards)
Senior Amateurs – One tee forward (6,300 yards to 5,950 yards)
Female PGA Professionals and Female Amateurs – One tee forward (6,000 yards to 5,650 yards)
