Colorado PGA Foundation Golf in Schools Program
Brief Description of Program
The Colorado PGA Foundation Golf in Schools Program is currently in several public schools in Denver. We are looking to expand this program where Colorado PGA Professionals partner with local public schools and provide the equipment and training to the Physical Education Teachers so they are able to provide golf instruction to the students. A PGA Professional adopts a school and the Colorado PGA Foundation provides the funding to supply the school with a Birdie Ball Golf Kit and golf clubs. The Birdie Ball Kit allows you to teach this sport indoors or outdoors. With Birdie Ball you have the ability to set-up a 9-hole golf course on the same size area as a regulation football field.
The game of golf not only teaches the students a sport they can play their entire lifetime, it also teaches them the values of integrity, honesty and sportsmanship. Through the instruction program of the golf swing these values are also taught.
Participating Schools
In the past 7 years approximately 46 schools in the Denver Public School system have received a Golf In Schools kit. Over the years approximately 33% of the schools had maintained the program with teacher engagement.
In 2010 the Colorado PGA has committed to ‘teach the teacher’ and have a PGA Professional accountable for area schools to help the schools easily continue the program. To date there are over 10 active Golf In Schools programs assisted by PGA Professionals:
